Once again, A THEATRE NEAR U, brings another astonishingly original and cutting-edge play to the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, Second Stage — Children of an Idle Brain. Orphaned sisters respond to the stark, bleak reality of their lives in wholly opposite ways, one sleeps for days on end dreaming of happy liaisons and reunions, while the other struggles to keep a leaking roof over their heads, simply dreaming of attending college. Interlaced with powerful doses of comedy and tragedy, Children of an Idle Brain, explores the human capacity to deeply fantasize, to despair, to yearn. This stunning play grabs you by the collar, drags you into the eye of the storm and leaves you at its shocking conclusion asking urgently, “Is it true? Life is but a dream?” Children of an Idle Brain has a cast that ranges in age from 14 – 21, aspiring young professionals from a widespread collection of schools from around the Bay Area. This year our cast also includes troupe members returning from colleges around the country and a special guest appearance from a local adult actress. A THEATRE NEAR U is a film and theatre academy for artistic teens interested in careers in film and/or theatre acting, directing and writing. A Theatre Near U offers training in these disciplines at a level not found elsewhere in our community for young artists. It is a place where those who take their craft seriously can work with peers who are equally devoted and passionate, and receive training from industry professionals.
